For Authors

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Present the original manuscripts with an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable;
  • Do not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one publication at a time. This constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable;
  • Ensure that authors have written original works and that any work or words of other authors, contributors or sources have been appropriately credited and referenced;
  • Submit the author's works to this journal for publication as original articles confirm that the submitted works represent their own contributions and have not been copied or plagiarised in whole or in part from other works without clearly citing the source;
  • Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable;
  • Ensure that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere;
  • It is the authors responsibility to notify the journal's editor, if a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work is identified;
  • The authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be acknowledged;
  • The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included in the author's list of the manuscript, and that there is a full consensus of all co-authors in approving the final version of the paper and its submission for publication;
  • To disclose financial or other conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support should be disclosed;
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format;
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided;
  • Authors should use the provided SMLA template, and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end,

SMLA is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. All submissions are checked for plagiarism using iThenticate—Similarity Check as part of our initial screening process. Manuscripts with significant levels of similarity to other works will be rejected outright.

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

Direct copying of text from other sources without proper attribution.
Paraphrasing substantial portions of another work without acknowledgment.
